Heritage & Gardens

You can explore unique heritage sites, architecture, beautiful landscapes and natural assets across Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring.
From early feudal times, through the Middle Ages and Tudor times, to the building of the ‘New Town’ in the 1950s, Hemel Hempstead High Street (or Market Street) was the focal point of life in the Gade Valley, and the occasional visit by Henry VIII.

Today, the River Gade runs through the recently restored Jellicoe Water Gardens in the centre of Hemel Hempstead.

The area is on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, and has some beautiful parklands to enjoy at Gadebridge, Tring, and at Ashridge.  The quiet hamlets and villages, outside of the main towns (most with a delightful village pub at the heart), provide the perfect base for a countryside walk.
